To keep you
apprised of progress being made regarding
the new Lake Norman Christian School’s use of our church facilities,
here is an update of some pertinent activity taking
place:
-
The school has
enrolled 70 students, with a goal of 100.
-
There is an
Open House tomorrow, July 31st, at 7:00 pm.
-
Classes begin
September 2nd.
-
The school’s
administrative offices will be located in our Student Center. This
building will also include the school’s library, computer lab, and
limited-use classrooms (for special studies).
-
The school has
made a considerable number of cosmetic improvements to the Student
Center, at their expense. The walls have been painted, outside areas
have been landscaped, and floors are being re-finished.
-
Grade
classrooms will be located in our Family Life Center and Education
Building. Every effort will be made for the school’s grade
classrooms to mesh with the church’s grade classrooms. For example,
the school’s second-graders would occupy the same classroom as our
church’s second-graders.
-
At the school’s
expense, cabinets will be added to classrooms for kindergarteners, 1st
graders, and 2nd graders. These cabinets will match the cabinets
already in place in the 4th and 5th grade
classrooms.
-
To further ease
storage limitations, each room will have portable storage cabinets
for schoolteacher use, also at the
school's expense.
-
There are two outstanding issues that must be finalized before the
school becomes “official”:
-
The school
is awaiting final approval from the State
of North Carolina's Department of Non-Public Instruction.
-
Final
approval of the school’s lease contract with LNBC is pending. A
vote on the lease by our church’s Leadership Council takes place
on August 7.
-
Irrespective of
the school’s physical imprint on the Student Center and other church
buildings, great care will be taken by LNBC to maintain our church’s
identity throughout the campus. Efforts will
be made to ensure that our
church's classrooms,
programs, and ministries have strong
visual representation and do not become subordinate to school
activities.
-
If you’d like
to learn more, please plan to attend our church’s Town Hall Meeting
on Wednesday, August 13th at 6:15 pm in the chapel.
-
Please continue to pray for the
school AND our church during this time of adjustment and transition.
If you have
questions, please contact
Landon Horton or
Gerald Vaughn at the church.
Thank you!
Tim
